Two questions:

1) My TBird v115.18 (32-bit, Windows 7) no longer allows me to get emails from the server. This just started today (7/17/25). I get a message that says there are no emails. The emails download properly on my Windows 10 PC with the latest 64-bit program. Is there anything I can do or change that will restore that function on my Win7 PC?

2) Is there a 64-bit version that will run on a Windows 7 PC and perhaps solve the problem in #1 above? If so, how can I get the proper 64-bit version? The latest TBird 64-bit will not run on Windows 7.

I accidentally deleted a gmail account from thunderbird but I cannot reinstall it. If I go to new account, put in the user name and email there are green ticks. When I click on continue I receive a green tick and message 'configuration found in Monzilla ISPDB. But when I click on continue it takes me to what looks like google. The top of that page says 'enter credentials for xxx@gmail.com on imap.gmail.com. Below that is https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050?hl=en and a message to check the Monzilla support site for instructions. And the Monzilla page says 'waiting for authorisation in loginpopup' and a blue circle goes round and round.... Help!

I have just installed Thunderbird 139.0.2 and I am no longer getting event reminders. How can I restore the capability to have the event reminders displayed?

Fixed this event reminder problem: checking the settings box to "Show missed reminders for writable calendars" enabled Thunderbird 139.0.2 to open the reminder box to show the event before it is going to happen, as well as showing the event after it was going to happen. Never had to explicitly do this with previous versions of Thunderbird in the 20+ years I have been using the Thunderbird calendar.

Thunderbird 140: IMAP keeps downloading old emails. "Downloading message x of y in folder" and it goes folder by folder, some of these folders have a lot of mail so this can take ages.

After updating to 140 (release update channel), IMAP folders keep downloading all emails in a folder, even though the vast majority of them are already local. I get the message "Downloading message x of y in folder" and it goes folder by folder, some of these folders have a lot of mail so this can take ages.

I do have a lot of folders and emails, I have tried compacting and searched for weeks, and only very old and not exactly this issue, any ideas?

I've been receiving gmail on Thunderbird for about 7 or 8 years and I really like it. For the last 3 days every message received in Inbox has been deleted whenever the message has been closed (these are messages that weren't supposed to be deleted), even when I've tagged them for future referral. Moreover, I set up a substantial list of folders and there were numerous emails saved in some of them. All the folders are now empty and I don't know why this has happened. I'm an 83-year-old non-technical person and I don't know where to start to try to fix these problems. I read some of the other questions but I didn't see any problems like mine.

I can't send any emails with my personal outlook account. It always says "Login to server smtp.office365.com with username xxx@outlook.com failed." Receiving mails works fine. Both my IMAP and SMTP authentication are set to OAuth2.

Here's my account info found in troubleshooting information.

   account14:
     INCOMING: account14, , (imap) outlook.office365.com:993, 3, 10
     OUTGOING: , SMTP.office365.com:587, 2, 10, true


I've tried:

  • Removing and re-adding the account
  • Deleting oauth2.issuer and oauth2.scope in config editor and re-login
  • Adding the account in a new profile
  • Switching to basic authentication for SMTP

They don't solve the issue.

My filters seem to work for emails received but not for ones I've sent. I use the rule "From, To, CC or BCC" combined with a persons email name (i.e. preceding the @ sign) and while From works the To doesn't and remain in my sent folder. Periodically I have to use "Run Filters on Folder" or "Run Now" from within the Sent folder to move everything to their respective folders. Do I have to have a separate rule just for "To"?
